Adult Education Classes Frequently Asked Questions

How long do these classes last?

There will be new general classes approximately every quarter.  Some classes may be shorter or longer depending on content.  Some life-stage classes will continue beyond the quarter.

Didn’t we just study God’s Word in the service?

The education hour provides a different setting for the study and application of God’s Word.  Our goal is to provide opportunities for interaction, discussion, and questions in the education classes like we saw on the 2nd day of Ezra’s instruction.    Participating in a deeper study of God’s Word also is a powerful way to teach our children to be passionate about their faith by our example.  May we love to study His Word.

Neh 8:13  On the second day the heads of fathers’ houses of all the people, with the priests and the Levites, came together to Ezra the scribe in order to study the words of the Law.

How can classes help us build community?

Each class will provide opportunities not only to study God’s Word, but to get to know each other.  These times will be integrated into the class.  As we get to know needs, there are then possibilities to meet needs. Classes may plan separate fellowship activities as well.   Also, at the beginning of each class will be a casual time of fellowship.  This also helps us be intentional with our time and include more in our community.  We encourage you to grab a cup of coffee (if you want!) and head to class.

Col 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

What if I don’t know where I fit in a class?

As each quarter provides different options, there may be a quarter where you are not sure what class you should attend or where the material seems familiar to you.  These are great opportunities to focus on what you can give and how you can serve the class.  Since we are studying God’s Word in the context of community, there are always opportunities to build into another’s life.  For instance, for the SHAPE class (study of ministry) to be most effective, there ideally would be a mix of those new to ministry and ministry veterans that have seen the joy and struggle of ministry.  It is always a good thing to study God’s Word.  Remember, we are never done learning and we are never done building up our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Mark 10:45  For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

I have an idea for a topic, what do I do?

Fantastic!  Please let Phil Zirges or Pastor Ron know.  We would love to hear how we can continue to help our church family grow in the Lord.

Thank you for joining us as study God’s Word in community.  May He bless our time together.
